This "Great Mustang - Mustang Giveaway" is sponsored by the Historic Aircraft Preservation Society, Inc (HAPS). The Giveaway is a fund raiser for the purpose of restoring and preserving historic and vintage aircraft.
Our current project is this 1931 Fleet Model 8 biplane. It is the last one in the world capable of flight, and was once owned by a famous WWII bomber pilot, Captain Fred J. McConnell.

Restored as "Charlotte's Chariot II" to honor Lt. Cary Salter of the 354th Fighter Group, 353rd Fighter Sq.

Credited with 2.5 aerial victories, and 60 missions in the P-51, Lt. Salter was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, and Silver Star for his heroism in combat.

Salter spent 20 years in the Air Force, and passed away in August, 2015.

Mustang Max speed: 437 mph.

Number of surviving P-51 Mustangs is estimated at about 150.

Per the Official Rules, the Sponsor has the option to extended the Deadline to Enter by up to 60 days. Pursuant to this option, on May 25, 2024 the Sponsor elected to extended the the Deadline to Enter 60 days to July 31, 2024 at 10:00 pm Central Time.
Winner Announced:
August 8, 2024

Per the Official Rules, the announcement of the Winner will be about 6 to 8 days after the Deadline to Enter has passed. We estimate the new extended date for the announcement to be about August 8, 2024.

You must be a legal resident, at least 18 years old in the US, or of legal age of majority or older in the country of your residence. Selection Process:
Conditional Winners will be chosen through a random selection process by the Sponsor. Odds of winning depend on the number of tickets held. A verification process will take place during which conditional Winners will be required to sign paperwork re-confirming their eligibility and their ability to participate on given dates. Sponsor may also perform background checks, at its discretion, before an official Winner is announced.
